Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone

"Yanoda",is an onomatopoeia for one , two, three in the Hainan dialect. It has a special meaning when dividing it into three parts: firstly, "ya" means innovation; "no" represents promise; and "da" indicates practice. At the same time, "yanoda",is a also a warm greeting, referring to friendship and best wishes.

Hainan's yanoda rain forest is set on around 45 square kilometers and is one of the largest developments currently under construction in Hainan. With the Chinese government pledging 3.8 billion RMB over the next six years to help develop the area. Part of the planned extensions includes a number of scientific research centres as well as the construction of a range of eco-tourism locations, throughout the area.

Qizi Bay

qizi-bayQizi Bay, located on the west coast of Hainan island, is certainly a road less travelled, especially for Western tourists. We have heard of some Westerners going through this region, but they have been few and far between. The name Qizi Bay comes from the beautiful coloured pebbles that are found along the beach and in coves among the rocks. These stones are reminiscent of Chinese chess stones.

Qizi Bay is noteworthy for the magnificent scenery of its rocky coastline. The beaches are also fine for swimming, however if your looking to do some snorkelling or diving you better have your own gear as there is not a lot of infrastructure around this beautifully secluded inlet.

Aigrette's Paradise

Aigrette-s-ParadiseWuji Village located around 10 km north of Danzhou City, is surrounded by luxurious vegetation and has become the habitat of tens of thousands of Aigrettes (White Herons). Thus, this area has acquired a reputation as an 'Aigrette's Paradise'.
The aigrettes have lived in Wuji Village for more than 20 years. Around every Tomb-Sweeping Day (a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on April 5th which is set aside for visiting ancestral graves), the Aigrettes arrive in large flocks and generally reside here more than eight months.

As dusk descends, there is no more spectacular scene than seeing thousands of aigrettes fly back to the village. Recently, a six-storey bird-watching tower was built in Wuji Village.

Rezuo Liangyuan Botanical Garden

Rezuo-Liangyuan-Botanical-GardenThe Rezuo Liangyuan Botanical Garden, built in 1958, is the herbarium park of Chinese University of Tropical Agriculture and Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Science.
More than 1,000 kinds of plants from over 40 countries are divided into seven exhibition halls, including the zone of tropical aromatic plant, tropical medicinal plant, tropical fruit tree, tropical oil plant and tropical ornamental plant.

Nanli Lake

nanli-lakeNanli Lake is a famous scenic site in Haikou City, located in Ding'an County, about 40 kilometres from Haikou. The lake covers roughly 46 square kilometres and with a very pleasant average water temperature of around 22C it is nice for a dip all year round.
It is a large man-made lake, which was constructed by the people of Ding'an in 1958. Essentially built by accident, the original intention of the project was to construct a reservoir on the opposing side, what ended up happening however was the water gathered in the valley and became what is today's Nanli Lake and the mountains in the area became the islands in the lake.

The islands in Nanli Lake are very unique; there are 13 islands and five peninsulas in all. The shapes of the islands are varied, with square, oblong and round ones scattered throughout the lake. With lush subtropical forests and beautiful wildlife Nanli lake is a wonderfully diverse and fascinating area, which is well worth a visit.

Holiday Beach

Baihua Ridge Tourism Zone

Baihua-Ridge-Tourism-ZoneBaihua Ridge Tourism Zone is situated seven kilometers southeast of Genying Town. It is a "natural greenhouse" and one of Hainan Province's most treasured nature preserves. The tourism zone features natural landscapes of virgin forest, rare and precious animals and plants, hot spring and waterfalls as well as cultural landscapes of the Silk Road and Lisu ethnic customs.

Baihua Ridge is more than 1,100 meters high at the peak and supports a wide and diverse array of flora and fauna as well as some spectacular water landscapes. The Baihua Ridge Waterfall is the most famous and eye catching attraction in the area, with a 300 metre drop it is one of the tallest and most iconic waterfalls in all of China.
There are various tour activities held in the tourism zone, including a four-day bird watching tour, a one-day recreational tour to the Zaotang River Hot Spring Waterfall and finally a one-day walking tour crossing the Gaoligong Mountain along the southern Silk Road.

The End of the Earth

The-End-of-the-EarthThe End of the Earth, named Tianya Haijiao in Chinese, means 'the Edge of the Sky and the End of the Sea', this traditional attraction, is located at the foot of Xiama Hill in the town of Tianya, 24 km west of Sanya. It's famous for three big rocks-'Tianya, Haijiao and Column South'. This cape is hugely popular with Chinese tourists who flock here to be photographed in front of the huge rock - 'Column South' also features on China's 2-yuan banknote.

This is surely one of the most picturesque sights on the island featuring, bleached white sands, turquoise seas, deep blue skies and verdant hills, it is a must see for anyone searching for a beautiful photo opportunities. The Yalong Bay Central Square

Luhuitou Peninsula

Luhuitou-PeninsulaLuhuitou Peninsula is located 5 km north of Sanya, perched right on the edge of the South China Sea. The park features a 12-meter tall statue. The name for this popular spot translates to 'a deer turning its head', due to the legend that accompanies the district. In the legend, a brave Li hunter tracked a deer to the cliff's edge, whereupon the deer turned its head and then suddenly turned into a beautiful girl who became the hunter's bride. Standing on the top of the hill one can overlook the entire Sanya city, and when it's time to head back down, there is a wide range of shopping and dining facilities as well as accommodation located just at the foot of the hill.

Wuzhizhou Island

Wuzhizhou-IslandThe butterfly-shaped Islet of Wuzhizhou, also known as Valentine's Island, is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. Located just off the coast of Haitang Bay, this 1.5 sq km islet offers abundant tropical marine life and a wide range of beach activities for couples all year round. In addition, there is a rich variety of plant life on the island. It is home to more than 2,700 kinds of plants, including tall trees and dense bushes. With its idyllic and romantic surroundings, it's no surprise that the island has its own romantic legend about a young fisherman and a pretty girl that once lived here long ago. Legend has it they met somewhere along the pristine beaches of the Island. Soon enough they fell in love, but when the girl's father, found out about their love affair, he locked his daughter away. She tried to escape back into the arms of the young fisherman, but this made her father furious. To punish her, the Dragon King cast a spell that turned the two lovers into two enormous stones that would stand forever on the island silently facing one another. Since then, Wuzhizhou has become a popular meeting place for young lovers who take an oath to be faithful to each other forever.

Dadonghai

Fengmu Deer Farm

Fengmu-Deer-FarmEstablished on a peninsula beside a small lake, Fengmu Deer Farm is home to more than 700 David's, Eld's, Red and Sika deer. Shimei Bay

Coconut Plantation

coconut-riceDongjiao Coconut Plantation is located on the seaside of Dongjiao Town, Wenchang City in Hainan and is most well known for its large coconut plantation. There goes a saying that coconuts of Wenchang yield half of those grown in Hainan and the most famous is Dongjiao Coconut Plantation. The plantation is literally a forest with over 500,000 coconut trees including red, green, well-bred, short, tall and other varieties. Some short arecas tress are intermingled amongst the coconuts, which has lead the Hainan people to these identify these trees as lovers, the coconuts being the 'heroes' and the arecas as the 'beauties'. The trees not only provide a scenic backdrop and savory fruit, but they also act as a shield against the frequent typhoons here.

Walking along the shady paths through the forest provides a feast for the senses. The Coconut Bayou, whose scenery is featured on the famous series of stamps named 'Seashore Scenery', engenders a peaceful and idyllic image of nature. In the Coconut Park, you'll be inundated in a sea of coconuts of all different shapes and sizes.

BINGLANGGU

Binglanggu is located 28 km from Sanya, The lush gardens are full of betel nut trees, a native plant to Hainan. Betel nut, also known as Pinang or Areca nut, is the seed of the Betel Palm, the tall palm with shallow roots that looks similar to the coconut tree. The Betel has a significant bearing to the traditional Li and Miao people, they also often chew the Betel nuts as it is said to help relax both the body and mind. A number of cultural experiences await you in these traditional villages, with the guided tours through the gardens a must for anyone interested in indigenous cultures. A special treat you may also be lucky enough to enjoy is the incredible "Fire and Knife" performance of the Miao people.

Maogan Qianlong Cave

Situated about 30 km to the west of Baoting County, Maogan Qianlong Cave takes its name from the village in which it is located. The cave, which is 440 m long and 20 m wide, is the largest of its kind in Hainan, and it provides visitors with a selection of stalagmites and stalactites of various shapes and sizes. It is double-layered with six cave halls in spaced throughout the various sections.

Songtao Reservoir

Songtao Reservoir is located in the upper part of the Nan Du River. It was built in July 1958 but was not completed until 1969. It remains a key piece of infrastructure to this day and is primarily used for irrigation, diverting water from drainage basins, city and countryside water supply, flood protection, and hydropower cultivation.
Songtao Reservoir has a reputation as "the sea of the island"; the vast area of the reservoir combined with the beautiful surrounds makes it feel more like an inland sea than a man made lake. Also if you get the chance make sure to sample the delicious but oddly named 'bighead fish' a famous delicacy of the area.

Lanyang Hot Spring

The Lanyang or Blue Ocean Hot Spring is situated in a canyon 12 kilometers from Danzhou and 149 kilometers from Haikou. The spa area is 6 Kilometers long and 500M wide giving a total area of en enormous 2 square kilometers! The Daily flow of water is more than 2000 tons with a temperature ranging from 43ºC-84ºC. Lanyang is one of the largest spa areas in Hainan with more than ten natural spring outlets. The water contains zinc, strontium, lithium, bromine and other trace elements required by the human body moreover the quality and taste of the water remain consistently high. In the morning and evening, the hot spring area is enveloped in swirling clouds of piping hot steam. As well as the fantastic scenery, the hot springs are proven to have a positive effect on rheumatoid arthritis as well as dermal and cardiovascular problems making it an ideal place for some rest, relaxation and recuperation.

Stone Flower Caves Geological Park

Within this scenic area there is a dry cave and a flooded cave, which experts confirm were formed around 1.4 million years ago.
The dry cave is around 1.5 kilometres long with only around 510 metres having so far been explored. Within its interior there are stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, stone flags, stone waterfalls, tongues of stone, curled emery stones, aragonite flowers and single crystal calcite flowers. These fascinating formations are not only mesmerizingly beautiful but also of great scientific interest, the curled emery stones for example still to this day have no scientific explanation
The flooded cave is around three kilometres long and at the present time only 250 metres or so has been properly explored. At its deepest point, the water in the cave is seventeen metres deep with the width varying between three and fifteen metres. The interior of the flooded cave has a peculiar shape with a huge stalactite joining the apex of the cave to the floor. Natural wonders abound in this fascinating subterranean wonderland, which is also the home to the endangered, extremely rare and national level protected Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus).

Haikou People's Park

Currently the largest park in the city, it is located in the town centre and was founded in 1954, with a total area of around 30 hectares. The park itself is divided into a variety of sections icluding, a tropical garden, orchid garden and a beautiful lake. It also has the iconic Martyrs memorials, which are located right across the park, the most famous being the statue commemorating the Hainan Liberation Movement at the entrance of the park.

Wan Lu Yuan Park

Just off the Coastal Road of Haikou City is a beautiful park set on 1070 acres. One of the larger parks in the area it features a plaza area, a children's play area, lawn area, a bamboo and tropical ornamental garden, as well as a driving range. The unique coastal and tropical characteristics of the landscape, with blue sky, clear water makes it the perfect spot for a bit of rest and relaxation away from the big city, it is also a good place for recreational sports.

Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone

Located on Nanshan Mountain (the southernmost mountain in China), 40 km west of Sanya is a large-scale eco-cultural tourism zone with an area of around 50 square km. With amazing views, which extend from the mountaintop to the rolling ocean, and include Hainan's only Buddhism Resort. The construction of Nanshan Buddhism Cultural centre was started in April 1998. The park features a number of Buddhist Cultural icons including the "Nanshan Temple", "Nanshan Guangyin Statue on South Sea", "Savior Garden", "Auspicious Garden", "Longevity Valley" and "Small Moon Bay". There are also attractions such as the "Gold and jade Guanyin Statue", which has been put into the Guinness Record book of records. Further more the world renown, Nanshan Guanyin Statue that stands on the southern shore at a height of 108 meters. The project took 6 years to construct and was opened at a 'Grand Buddhist Revealing Ceremony' on April 24, 2005.

Dongtian Park (Daxiao Dongtian)

Sanya Nanshan Dongtian Park is located in the southwest corner of Mt. Nanshan, and it is considered to be the southernmost holy land of the Taoism religion. Blessed with amazing views of the sea, mountains and grottos, it has been developed as a scenic spot ever since Song Dynasty over 800 years ago, and is often heralded as the finest views anywhere in Hainan. In 1962, Guo Moruo visited this amazing park and famously called it " the most fascinating place in southern China". This area is also known for its connection with Taoism, the traditional Chinese religion, which has had a presence in the area for over 800 years.

Luobi Cave

The Luobi Cave is located in a small hill in Lizhigou Town, the cave is about 12 meters tall (at the mouth), 9 meters wide and around 18 meters deep. In the centre of the cave, the height reaches up to 22 meters. There are many additional caves inside, and there are many carved symbols in the cave. The lifelike stone sculptures feature, horses, dogs, monkeys and turtles and can be seen throughout the cave.

Sanya Beauty Crown Culture Center is located in Downtown Sanya, next to the Sanya East River, just north of the Famause Flour Park. Haitang Bay

Haitang Bay is one of the five major bays in Sanya, stretching over 42 km this glorious bay extends from Haitangwan Town in the North to Yalong Bay in the South.
A spot of a number of major new developments, Haitang Bay is looking to establish itself as the centre of eco-tourism in Hainan. The 125-hectare proposed site is the first eco-friendly tourism development in Hainan and a blue print for all on going projects into the future.
As well as this, Haintang Bay is going to be the home of Southern Asia's first 7-star resort hotel set to be built on an area of approximately 189,061 sq m. Just to the southeast of Wanning is Dazhou Island, Covering an area of 4.36 square kilometers, Dazhou Island is China's only production base for "bird's nests", a Chinese delicacy known for its health benefits. Many varieties of flora and fauna reside on Dazhou Island; with its amazingly clear waters and beautiful mountain scenery, Dazhou Island is a wonderful place to visit.

Sun and Moon Bay

The half-moon shaped Sun and Moon Bay faces the South China Sea to the south and is surrounded by mountains to the north. On the southern tip of the bay, a stream from Niuling Hill, forms a beautiful small lake which connects to the sea, and is also home to the only large water coconut forest in China.
Due to its beautiful scenery, Sun and Moon Bay was chosen by the organizing committee of Ambassador World Travel as a prime shooting location for its commercials.
Sun and Moon Bay is also a good place for surfing. In November 2009, the"Surfing Hainan"International Surfing Competition was held here. Already regarded as one of China's best surfing destinations it's reputation is growing as one of the finest breaks in all of Hainan.

Shenzhou Peninsula

Shenzhou Peninsula is 30 kilometers south of Wanning City. The peninsula is covered by forest and beach and is one of the most scenic peninsula's in the Island province. Possessing outstanding natural beauty, which includes four stunning south facing coves, endless stretches of pristine beaches, a serene Laguna, and world-class leisure facilities. Shenzhou is the perfect destination for a day of rest or a week's holiday. In September 2005, CITIC Pacific signed a contract with Wanning Municipal Government to invest 10 trillion Yuan to develop Shenzhou Peninsula as an ecological tourist resort, with a construction cycle of roughly 10 years.

Former Residence of the Songs

Possibly the most famous former residents of Hainan, Dr Sun Yatsen and his wife Song Qingling were two of the most revered figures in Chinese politics of the last century. The former residence of the Songs is located 30 kilometres away from Wenchang City.
Song's great grandfather built the house during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty. It is composed by two large rooms, two wings, two gateways and a courtyard, all together covering an area of more than 1500 square meters.
In the northwest wing of the house, there is the exhibition hall, which commemorates the life of Song Qingling and her husband. The halls are also lined with photos, pictures and paintings, all celebrating the life of Song Qingling.

Fengjia Bay

Fengjia Bay is around 25 km from downtown Wenchang and about 40 km from downtown Qionghai. It is a natural bay with a beach that stretches over 8 km. Famous for its white sand; the beach is so white that it has become known as"The Silver Beach of the South China Sea".
The bay is surrounded by luscious coconut trees and oddly-shaped stones. This area is well known amongst most Chinese people primarily due to the fact a scene from the Chinese TV series"Journey to the West"depicting the birth of the Monkey King from a stone was shot here.
To the west of the bay is Sangengzhi, a hill around 50 m high. Home to the most spectacular sunrises in all of Hainan, this is an ideal spot for camping, or just a rewarding hike.
