Hainan’s Untouched Rainforest

Hainan primitive rainforestThe Yanoda rainforest, located deep within the green shades of Hainan’s interior, is one of Asia’s last untouched natural wildlife sanctuaries. Derived from the Hainanese word’s “Ya” meaning innovation, “No” meaning promise and “Da” meaning practice, it is part of the rainforest zone situated on the high way from Sanya to Haikou, some 35 kilometres from the former.

The rainforest spans an area of 45 square kilometres and has the protection area of 123 square kilometres, with its protection and rejuvenation costing around $3.9 billion. The two most famous scenic zones in Yanoda are the Rain Forest valley and the Dream World valley, with the winding 18 kilometre inner ring road, defined by rope bridges, timber walkways and passing by numerous waterfalls and exotic plantlife, allowing tourists to venture deep into the green depths of the rainforest.

Some of the exotic plant life popularly known to flourish within Rainforest Valley includes the six rainforest wonders of strangling plants, flower baskets, blossom of old stems, great roots, intertwined vines and huge stones embraced by roots. All these natural scenes symbolize the essential features of the five major rainforests on Hainan Island. In the valleys, the plank roads lead to the deep forest, the stone staircases twist up at both sides of the huge rocks, and the steel hawsers cross up to the mountain through the waterfalls.

Admission to the rainforest is about 150 RMB or around $A25.
