When's the best time to visit Hainan?

Hainan Island enjoys a tropical, non-humid climate that does not change much all year round. Its hottest months are July and August with an average temperature between 28C to 32C and its coldest months are January and February with average temperature between 16C to 24C. The best time to visit Hainan is from November to May. During that time, the weather in Hainan is mild and agreeable like late spring and early summer.

 

How do I extend my Visa in China?

The Public Security Bureau (PSB) is in charge of all visa applications. You can obtain an extension to the landing visa obtained in Hainan at any PSB location most commonly at a police station. These extensions are valid for 30 days and you are allowed two extensions on your initial landing visa. After that time you will need to apply for a transfer visa with a third nation.

What are the delicacies in Hainan?

Thanks to the abundant beaches and tropical weather, Hainan is a seafood and tropical fruit paradise. For the best and freshest seafood try the fresh caught seafood buffets, which are commonly seen along most shorelines throughout Hainan.

 

What activities are available in Sanya?

There is an abundance of activities for you to take on in Sanya, such as, diving, water-skiing, parasailing, fishing, sailing, motorboating, submarines, cycling, kite flying, etc. similarly there are some of the worlds fines golf courses and the renowned hot springs.

 

What are your suggestions about tipping?

Tipping has become a common practice in the service industry of China in recent years, however gratuities are entirely voluntary and not required. It is quite normal to tip your tour guide, driver and hotel bellboy in recognition of their good service. Normally, you do not need to tip at a hotel restaurant as the bill includes 10% to 15% service charge and it is also not customary to leave tips at local restaurants, unless you have received an exceptional level of service. We can assure however that whether you tip your guide or not it will not affect the level of service.

 

Is the tap water drinkable in Hainan?

Tap water is not drinkable in China except in some of the hotels, but it is safe for brushing teeth. All hotels supply guests with a thermos of hot boiled water in your room to make tea or coffee. Bottled water is recommended in all instances for drinking. Some hotels provide complimentary bottled water, if not, it can be purchased for about RMB2 per bottle everywhere outside the hotel.

 

What are the baggage regulations for domestic flights in China?

In accordance with regulations of the General Administration of Civil Aviation in China, the free baggage allowance within China is 20kg for the economy class, 30kg for the business class, and 40kg for the first class, plus limited carry-on luggage. Excess baggage charges are the sole responsibility of the clients.

 

Is there only Chinese food available in Hainan?

Western food is available throughout Sanya, but less so throughout the smaller less tourist friendly parts of the Island. We do recommend however that you do try some local seafood and other specialties of the area, as they are both unique and delicious.

 

Do I need to bring my medical records?

We suggest that you bring your medical records with you when you travel, particularly if you have any pre-existing conditions. These records should include your blood type, immunization record, allergies, medications you are currently taking (both prescribed and non- prescribed), your doctor's name, address and telephone number.

 

How much money can I take out of China undeclared?

If you are taking our less than 6000 RMB, you do not have to declare it at customs, if the amount is over 6000 RMB, then you do have to declare it at customs.

 

Can I obtain prescription medicine if I require it in China?

If you have a pre-existing condition we do recommend that you bring enough to last for the duration of the trip. If you do fall ill, Hainan has some of China's best medical facilities and the majority of medicines are available, it is also worth noting that all major hotels are equipped with doctors and a medical staff as well.

 

What goods can/can't I bring in?

Importation of illegal drugs, firearms and pornographic material is prohibited. A litre of wine or spirits per person and up to 200 cigarettes is allowed along with a reasonable amount of clothing and electronic items for personal use. Foreign cash may be brought into the country without restriction.

 

Will I be able to use my electrical equipment in Hainan?

Australia and Hainan share the same voltage 220-240, which makes it easy to take your electrical appliances to Hainan. Depending on your location an adapter is recommended for using appliances you bring with you. Most major hotels provide hair dryers and other amenities.
