China Southern doubles departures from Australia

Asia’s largest airline has announced a doubling of current departures from Australia during the peak Christmas to New Year season

From now until 25 March 2010, the carrier will introduce three nonstop flights per week from Melbourne to Guangzhou, replacing its current flights which are via Sydney. The existing five departures from Sydney will be maintained.

Also, until 20 February 2010, flights from Sydney will increase to daily departures taking the total number of nonstop flights per week from Australia to 10.

China Southern Airlines Regional Manager Australia James Liu said the increase in flights was to meet the increasing demand within China and Sydney.

“Our new schedules for the Northern Winter period are designed to accommodate the growth in tourist and business traffic from Australia, as well as the seasonal peak in travel by members of the Chinese community”
