Sanya ups investments in Haitang Bay

Approximately RMB 19.9 million (AUD$3.1 million) has been invested into over 150 projects in Haitang Bay off the coast of Hainan Island's resort capital city of Sanya.

 

So far, 153 projects have currently been completed with the first batch of star-related hotels recently opened.

These include the Conrad and Doubletree Sanya Haitang Bay by Hilton and the Renaissance Sanya. In their first months, these hotel resorts turned over 700 billion Yuan.

 

Haitang Bay is one of the five major bays in Sanya, boasting a 42.8km stretch of beach.

 

Since China announced its ten-year plan to develop Hainan to an international resort destination by 2020, the Haitang Bay area has seen its fair share of development.

 

The area already boasts a world-class golf club with its own eco-resort, and the nearly completed private luxury Phoenix Island, with the island's first 7-star hotel.

 

Developments for a second 7-star hotel near the capital city of Haikou. Called the Millennium Hotel, also to be built on a man-made island.

 

Current construction of another 21 five-star hotels has begun along Haitang Bay with resorts including Club Med, Haitang Bay No. 9 and Kempinski set to open at the end of 2011.

 

According to 0898.net, 10.9 billion Yuan of this investment has come from the government, and the rest from commercial companies.

 

The Hainan Branch of the PLA General Hospital has also entered into its final construction phase and is set to open in October this year. The hospital aims to provide the highest level of medical service to tourists and locals by the end of 2011.
