Mission Hills meets Lan Kwai Fong, Hainan
Hong Kong developer Lan Kwai Fong has partnered with the Mission Hills Group in the 2 billion Yuan ($314 million) development of a shopping and entertainment complex in Hainan.
Located in Haikou, the capital city of China's tropical island province Hainan, the 5-star Mission Hills Lan Kwai Fong project will feature world-class golf facilities alongside world-class lifestyle, shopping, entertainment, dining and cultural elements.
'With lifestyle and fashion elements injected into this new project by Lan Kwai Fong, visitors can now immerse themselves in a myriad of shopping, entertainment, dining and cultural activities while enjoying premier golfing experience in a world-class venue,' said Dr Ken Chu, Chairman and CEO of Mission Hills Group.
'I am confident this new landmark will further solidify Haikou's increasing dynamic role as an unparalleled leisure and entertainment paradise,' he said.
The project extends from the prestigious golfing mecca Mission Hills Haikou built last year. It will feature an entertainment zone, an open-air retail shopping environment, a high-end shopping complex, the 'Quarry Lake' featuring a symphony of water shows with sound and lights as well as international five-star and boutique hotels.
Lan Kwai Fong, fathered by German-Canadian businessman Allan Zeman, is known for hatching the popular expatriate haunt and nightlife district of the same name in Hong Kong in 1983 with the opening of the restaurant 'California'.
Following success, Zeman founded the Lan Kwai Group and invested HK$32 million to develop a whole block into one of Hong Kong's most popular entertainment destinations, famous for its night life.
'Every day I get approached by different cities in China, asking me to put a Lan Kwai Fong in their cities,' said Mr Zeman.
Other projects of the Lan Kwai Fong group have been developed in Chengdu and Guangzhou, China, as well as Phuket, Thailand and Los Angeles, USA.
The partnership of the two high-end developers reflects is exciting news for the island that has made its way to the top on the list of international resort destinations.
'I'm a day-club operator, and you're a nightclub operator. That's a good match,' said Chu to Zeman. 'It's about how we make it more fun for tourists.'
